Delete your account

This page explains how to delete your account in Hype: Built for Athletes, the Hype app on the App Store and Google Play, and what happens to your data when you do. You do not need to sign in to read it.

Delete your account in the app

  1. Open Hype: Built for Athletes and sign in.
  2. Go to Settings, then Security.
  3. Under Danger zone, tap Delete account.
  4. Read what will happen, type DELETE, then tap Send me a code.
  5. We email a 6-digit code to the email address on your account. Enter it to confirm.

Deleting your account is permanent. It cannot be undone, and you will not be able to sign back in to it.

Just need a break? Choose Deactivate account on the same screen instead. It hides your profile and signs you out, and signing back in undoes it.

Ask us to delete your account without the app

If you no longer have the app, or cannot sign in, email privacy@hypeapp.world from the email address on your account. Use the subject “Delete my account” and include your username if you know it.

Our team handles these requests by hand. We will confirm the request comes from you, process it, and let you know by email once your account is closed. The rest of this page applies from the day it is closed.

If you are a parent or guardian asking about your child’s account, email the same address and tell us your child’s username.

What is deleted right away

When your account is deleted:

  • You are signed out on every device, and your sign-in is removed, including any Apple or Google sign-in linked to it.
  • Your name, username, email address, phone number, date of birth and profile photo are removed from your account.
  • You leave your teams, schools, chats and groups, and your follows and profile wall are deleted.
  • Your precise location history is deleted.

What is deleted after that

After your account is closed, we also delete the following. We aim to do this within about 30 days of closure, but we cannot guarantee that timing yet:

  • Your settings, notifications, saved items and searches, collections, the sports, topics and goals you picked, your scores, your linked devices and your remaining location records.
  • The posts, threads and replies you wrote. Their text is erased and they are removed from the app.
  • Your reactions, likes, votes and poll answers.
  • The photos and files stored for your profile and your collections.

Copies of deleted data can stay in our backups for up to 30 more days, until those backups expire.

What we keep, and why

Some records are not deleted, because other people rely on them or because we need them to keep people safe:

  • Chat messages you sent stay in those conversations so they still make sense to the other people in them. They show as from “Deleted user” and no longer carry your name.
  • Team records you added, such as schedule events, team documents, rosters and stats, stay with the team. A roster entry your coach typed may still show the name and contact details they entered.
  • Safety and moderation records, such as reports, blocks and moderation decisions, and anything that was reported, are kept.
  • Parent and guardian records, such as family links and consent records, are kept.
  • Support requests you sent us are kept as a record of the request, including what you wrote in them.
  • Usage records, such as which screens were opened and which posts were viewed, are not deleted with your account at the moment.
  • Your email address is kept by our email provider on a do-not-send list, so we never email it again. If you sign up again with the same address, it is removed from that list.

We remove your name and contact details from your account, but records like support messages keep what was written in them. Safety, moderation and guardian records can be seen only by Hype staff and the people involved. We keep them for as long as needed to keep people safe and to comply with our legal obligations.

If your account is part of an open safety report, we keep its data until the report is resolved, and then delete it as described above.
